Smart47Utility tier · AMI conversion device

Ten minutes per meter. No swap, no rewiring, no head-end system.

Smart47 clips onto the optical port of a meter that is already installed and working, and gives it two-way smart-meter connectivity.

The problem with replacement programmes

The strategy is sound. The delivery model is the bottleneck.

Two stages disappear. The meter swap and the per-vendor head-end system dominate a replacement budget, and the retrofit path does not contain them. The greyed slots are left in place so the absence is visible.
Cost per conversionUnit economics anchored to a full meter replacement — hardware, logistics, labour, and disposal of a working asset.
Conversion ratePhysical meter swaps are labour-bound. Rollout speed is capped by crews and trucks, not by technology.
The HES layerEach vendor’s meters typically need their own Head-End System. Cost scales with fragmentation rather than with meters.
Working meters discardedMillions of accurate, functioning meters written off purely because they lack a communications module.

Pakistan’s DISCOs have tens of millions of conventional meters already installed and working. Smart47 clips onto the optical port and gives one full two-way connectivity — without removing, replacing or rewiring it.

HeadlineDerived from the two figures above

Replacement cost includes the head-end system share. Conversion cost does not, because the retrofit does not use one.

Costs are held in US dollars and converted at an indicative rate. The per-meter figures match the published business case: 40% lower single-phase, 60% lower three-phase.

Follow one reading from the meter to the platform. One stage never happens.

Installation, four steps

Locate the port, clip it on. No seal broken, no wiring touched.

In service. Meter-powered, so there is no battery to return for.
01Locate the optical port
02Clip the unit onto the face
03Pair the uplink
04Verify the first reading

Under 10 minutes, no swap, no rewiring.

Product status

Smart47 is a lab prototype. It has been developed and refined through hands-on proof-of-concept work. It is not field-deployed, and there is no installed base. Figures on this page are design targets and published unit costs, not measurements from a live network.

Run a pilot

Which division, which feeders, how many meters, and for how long — all decided by you. Smart47 is fitted to the meters already installed there.
